Sam Altman Says AI Will Destroy Jobs 'Full Stop' — But He's Wrong
LLMs like ChatGPT have been hyped since 2022, and even I got swept up in it for a while. Here's my take on where it's really going — and why the creative economy isn't going anywhere.
It's reshaping business strategy, ad content, customer service—and yes, it's generating art, music, writing, and code.
Naturally, people extend their thinking from there to assume AI will replace creative workers.
Even Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has dramatically suggested that our entire societal structure will shift—no jobs, no human labor economy, no real work.
To me, if that could even happen, it would be a marketers golden dream, sort of funhouse mirror maze, where our societal perceptions and values are dictated by whatever training data that goes into these models. Yuck, but also delusional. Riots would happen.
I think it's blown out of proportion—strategic hype designed to attract investment in an unproven technology.
AI Will Replace Business Logic—Not Creative Value
AI is already disrupting legacy business models by:
✅ Increasing connections between different sectors of the economy
✅ Automating and quickly adapting business logic to fit rapid market shifts
✅ Amplifying human ability to work in deep context without long lead times
With agentic AI, this will only accelerate.
AI Content Will Be Cheap—And Cheap Means Saturated
Right now, people are paying for AI-generated content because it's new and exciting.
But once anyone can generate AI content instantly, audiences will become more discerning.
In the long run, I believe content creation services will settle into what they've always been with respect to tech advancements:
1️⃣ AI-Generated Slop
💰 Cost: $
⏳ Effort: Minimal
📈 Value: Lowest
🔹 Mass-produced, zero human hours, flooding every corner of the internet.
2️⃣ Technical Artists Using AI Creatively
💰 Cost: $$ - $$$
⏳ Effort: Medium
📈 Value: Moderate
🔹 Creators who blend AI tools with human creativity to craft engaging, semi-original work.
3️⃣ Handmade, Verifiably Human Content
💰 Cost: $$$ - $$$$$
⏳ Effort: High
📈 Value: Highest
🔹 Skilled, artisan-level work with deep originality and craftsmanship.
If businesses want to stand out, they'll have to reject AI slop, admire handmade from a distance until they can afford it, and mostly pay for technical artistry.
Creators: What's Next?
If you're a creator, this doesn't mean AI will replace you—but it does mean you need to adapt.
In my next post, I'll break down the key strategies that will help you stay ahead in an AI-saturated market. As a creator, you probably won't be surprised, but it's just a new, updated version of Storytelling.
